St. Patrick Catholic School Bell!
On Monday, November 16, 2009, the newly restored bell that had been stored in an unmarked wooden crate in the basement of the school for a number of years, was returned to our school. It is STUNNING! Four coats of paint were removed as well as rust and tarnish and lots of buffing has given the bell a beautiful pewter-like sheen. The 400 pound bell is mounted on the original brackets that supported the bell when it was housed somewhere at the top of the school building. The bell is encased on a movable stand, covered with Plexiglas and can be rung, so that all may hear the very clear and beautiful sound of a finely cast bell.
Cast on the front of the bell is the following:
St. Patrick's
Parochial School
York, PA
On the back of the bell:
McShane Bell Foundry.
Henry McShane & Co.
Baltimore, MD
Trade Mark.
1886.
This bell is a wonderful piece of the History of St. Patrick Catholic School and our parish and can now be easily admired and enjoyed. You are most welcome to visit St. Patrick Catholic School, meet our Principal, Sr. Mary Elizabeth Muir, IHM, see the bell and become more familiar with our GREAT school program. YOUR good comments to others serve as the best source of publicity and marketing for our school and is GREATLY appreciated.
