Good Morning Parents. My apologies I had a bit of a problem with this site and my log-in. The first week of religous ed we reviewed the Our Father where the prayer came from and we went over each line of the Lords prayer and what it means; and what Our Lord was asking of his Father. Then we reviewed the Hail Mary and how this prayer originated. I didn't want to just recite prayers I want each student to know what they are praying. Then we prayed. We completed Chapter one the first week and completed the homework in class. This week we covered chapters 2 & 3. Again we completed the homework for both chapters in class. They also learned that we are in the Old Testament in the book of Genesis. I want your children to use their imaginations and I am trying to bring these scriptures up to current times and events that are going on in our time. For example the tower of Babel became the the rebuilt world trade center and to give their work to the glory of God. May God bless you and thank you for bringing me your beautiful children. With God's grace. Miss Janis Good Morning Parents, Today we did chapter four about Abram and his journey and why his name was changed to Abraham . We also did three pages of homework and reviewed chapters one through three. We also talked of the apostles and their professions before following Christ. I also talked about Paul and his conversion to Christ. I keep reminding them that we are reading from the book of Genesis. I sent paperwork home with them for you. One of these is to let you know that we will meet at 9:15am in the church to pray the rosary. They are to seek me out so we can sit as a class and then we will return to the school upon completion. You are welcome to join us for the rosary. Your children are so faithful in prayer after reciting the Angelus at the end of class they ask if we can say the Our Father and we do. What a blessing you have with your children. Until next week with God's grace. Miss Janis
Good Morning Parents, This website and I are having a go around which makes me want to get email addresses from you which would be quicker however; this morning alond with Fr. Carroll we prayed the rosary in church since October is the month of the rosary. In class we studied chapter five about trickery, Esau and Jacob how their mother Rebekah trick their father Isaac into giving the wrong son his blessing. How Jacob had to be sent away so he was not killed by his brother Esau. We also learned how God changed Jacob's name to Israel and how he had 12 sons and they became the 12 tribes of Israel. We also learned about how Jesus is from the tribe of Judah and that is how the Hebrews obtained the name of Jew. Next week we won't have class so if you could take some time and review the chapters 1-5 it may keep their minds refreshed. We did do homework in class again just one page. In their activity books on page 20 is a condensed version of chapter 5. Thank you for bringing me your children again. With God's grace. Miss Janis
Good Morning Parents,
Today we did chapters 6 & 7. This was about Joseph, his Father Isreal(Jacob,) and his brothers. How his brothers were jealous of Joseph, because Joseph was their fathers favorite; and because Joseph had dreams that would come true. His bothers made fun of his dreams and said " yeah sure people are going to bow down to you." So his brthers went out to work and plotted to kill Joseph out of jealousy but instead sold him for 20 silver dollars to a caravan heading to Egypt. However, Joseph got the best of them when famine took place just as the dream predicted and Joseph had prepared. When his brothers came to get grain, Joseph jailed one of his brothers in order to get his youngest brother and Father to come. He then forgave his brothers and his Father again had peace when he found out Joseph was alive.
They also learned what the word Bible means; ask them....it means book of instructions before leaving earth and their main goal on earth is to live their lives in a way to get to heaven. We did 2 pages of homework and soon I will be giving them a test or pop quiz to see how much they remember. I asked today what was the names of Adam and Eve's children none of the six students remembered.
These are very smart children with very good questions. I am going to let them start to teach one each week so they learn from one another. This is only if the child wants to, some don't. They are getting up and reading in front of the class. They are all my professors as I call them. The only problem I have with some of them is concentration and many interruptions but with hand always raised. If you want to work with them in the activity book on Joseph it would be great. Review with them please. With God's grace have a good week. Miss Janis
Sunday October 23, 2016 Mission Sunday, Good Morning Parents Today I gave each child a Mission Box which they can give a quarter out of their allowance to the missions of the world, or they can just contribute to a box I'll have in class. This teaches your children to help others I hope. We had a special visitor today a missionary Sr. Monica who is our assistant pastor. She spoke to your children about the Bible. She explained the two parts of the bible and how the Bible can be called Hebrews. She also told them how the original Bible, our bible, has seven more books than other Bibles. Next week in our scriptures the first reading will be from the book of Wisdom which is one of the seven books, it is a beautiful book. Today in class we reviewed some since we will have a test next week on the first five chapters please study with your children and review. I want to see where I may be failing to teach them or what I have to emphasize more. I do not care about who begat whom. I am following the house of Jesus which began on earth with Judah. I am not concern about the other tribes per say. So we have now completed the book of Genesis and have started the second book which is Exodus and Moses. We did not complete this chapter nor did we do any homework. Their homework is to study!!!!! chapters 1-5. Next week your children can wear their Halloween customes to class and I will be giving candy. Do any of your children have food allergies? My telephone number is 717-318-4655 my email is firstname.lastname@example.org contact me anytime after 5pm weekdays after 8am Saturdays and Sundays. Just a reminder All Saints Day is Tuesday do they have a favorite Saint? This is a holy day of obligation. So they say. Again your children are good and really listened today after I seperated two of the boys. They will teach after the test I am trying to involve all of them. With God's grace...Miss Janis...Have a good week
Happy Sunday Parents, Today I had very good students! Last week I did not publish, therefore I apologize. It was a very busy week with all saints and all souls day and of course with my computer it thinks that I don't have internet, geek squad here we come. Last week we started the second book of the bible Exodus which began with Moses and today we continued with Moses
I did give them homework. I found out today that all the children don't know their prayers which are in the back of the text book. So their first homework assignment is to pray before bed the Our Father, The Hail Mary and The Glory Be. We completed chapters 8 & 9 which they have for homework, in the activity book pages 32 & 33 and 35. If this is not done I would like to know why? They all did very well on their test and we will have another soon. It is very important that you check their homework since now I am giving some. Please teach them their prayers and say them with them before bed as some of you already do, I can tell. I will need your telephone numbers or email addresses since at times I do need to contact you. Some of these children say that they are up very late at night and this effects their Sunday School. Please pray with them as I do for thee. Thank you for your children! With God's Grace. Miss Janis

Sunday 11/20/16 Good afternoon parents, Today we read chapter 11 about Sampson. I have someone helping me from time to time you may know her, she helped in third grade a couple years ago, her name is Miss Alicia Quinto. I let her teach today; one great thing about her is thatd she is a city certified teacher. Your children were very good today and they all had their homework completed!!! Fantastic and thank you!! I did not give any homework over the Thanksgiving holiday I did ask the children to bring their mission boxes in after Thanksgiving or to bring money in to put in the class mission box. The sunday after Thanksgiving is St Nicholas day so please send your child with an extra shoe. I hope you all have a very blessed, safe and Happy Thanksgiving. With God's grace
Sunday 12/11/2016 My apologies for not being in touch last week, I had to go somewhere after class which lasted all day. Last week we completed chapter 12 and there wasn't any homework given. We also started to watch the movie The Ten Commandments, we will not watch the entire movie but most of it. Today we watched a Christmas movie since next week Father will hear their confessions and then we will spend time in church learning about adoration, so again there will not be any homework. Please drop your fourth graders at the church NOT the school. Maybe you can review The act of Contrition with them it is in the back of their book page 162, but they can take their book with them or sometimes we say it as a class prior to confession. Please bring their mission boxes since we will not have class for two weeks. Your boys are really improving in class, the girls were always pretty good. They will be getting a small gift from me, so if you see them with something it was from us. Have a very safe week, traffic is crazy. With God's grace..Miss Janis
12/17/2016 Happy Sunday Parents, Today was our last class of 2016 and it was great! The children got their souls and hearts wiped clean with confession, which both our our priests heard. Deacon Michael taught them all about adoration and had benediction. They were fascinated by the incense and Deacon showed it to them after the service and explained to them that their prayers get carried to God with the incense. They met Christ in the host inside the Monstra, and got to touch Christ by touching the shawl that the Deacon wears while holding the Monstra. It was adorable one child, Aiden didn't want to touch Christ because he is too holy, but Deacon encouraged him to touch, and he did, and all the children did. They sang Latin or at least heard it for the benediction, and they will remember each time they attend benediction. I want to sincerely thank the parents who remebered me at Christmas, it is so very special to me. The gifts were perfect!!! Especially the card that was made for me by Katie, it hangs the highest in my apartment. One child left their books and folder in the class room, it is safe it is in the classroom bin for Religious Ed. Not to worry they won't need it until the 8th of January. I may go through withdraw for I seemed to get attached to each child. Thank you again for bringing me your children and hope you have a blessed Christmas, safe journey's and A very Happy New Year!!!! With Christ's love and grace...........Miss Janis
Sunday January 8, 2017 Good Afternoon Parents, Today we did chapter 13 about David, who is very important in Jesus' life for it is with David's heritage became Christ. For David is Jesus' great grandfather 14 generations removed. The children learned how David became King, and how David sinned with Besheba, they all recognized adultery immediately, and told me without me asking. They learned that David wrote the Psalms for forgivness and how we pray those Psalms in each Mass. They learned where the Psalms are located in the Mass, between the first and second readings is where we pray the Psalms. They do have homework which is to read Chapter 14 about Solomon then we are ending the Old Testament....Yahoo!!! We don't have class next week because of the Martin Luther King Holiday so enjoy, and maybe you can read chapter 14 with them and then they can teach me what they learned? We are in a different classroom now (their old third grade room,) only because I have a bad left knee and it was difficult for me to do the stairs, so I thank Lynda and Mary Jean for that. I did have to seperate the boys today, and put Katie in between 2 of them and move one between two girls, he wasn't bad he was getting distracted and reading his neighbor's desk. They weren't acting out they were getting ready to, so I stopped it before it happened. Finally I'm learning! Have a good two weeks, again I will miss them. With God's grace...Miss Janis
Sunday January 22,2017 Good Evening Parents, Today we finally finished the Old Testiment chapter 14 about Solomon and Isaiah. What this was about was how Solomon was led away from God, due to the fact that he married many Gentile (non Jewish) wives and how God came to him in a dream and led him back to him. Isaiah, as you know, was a prophet and fortold about Mary, Christ, and Christ death. The children knew who else had dreams (Joseph husband of Mary) and who else had an angel appear to her (Mary.) We have a new student who joined us today her name is Charlene and we are very happy that she is with us. As you know, probably, we don't have class next week. Please bring your children to church to receive Jesus, class doesn't replace going to church, I know about busy schedules. I see many of the children there. We will be talking about John the Baptist next class. Have a good two weeks. With God's grace...Miss Janis
February 26,2017 Today we watched half of the movie The Ten Commandments and we will probably watch the second half next week. I did not document two weeks ago because I had to work for Valentine's, I am a Floral Manager. My understanding was they covered chapter 16, which was an Invitation to Christ and the Ten Commandments. Have a good week. With God's Grace....
March 12,2017 Good Evening Parents, Today we attended stations of the cross and had confessions. They also were learning how to pray without having prayers how to talk to God with what is in their hearts. Next week we will continue with the text book and the ten commandments. Have a good week. With God's Grace.....Miss Janis
March 19,2017 Good Afternoon Parents, Today we covered chapters 17 and 18 which covered the commandments through the fifth one. We talked in detail about loving God and false idols and how some people think that they can do all things by themselves. I explained to them how Catholism became to be and how after Christ death that the apostles called Catholism "The Way." I explained how Martin Luther got angry and he started the Luthern faith and then how others broke away and stated other faiths. Then we talked about the fourth and fifth commandments they understood that they were to obey their parents; then we talked about the fifth commandment how they should not kill... even themselves. We talked about not to drink in excess, not to do drugs that weren't prescribed, and not to smoke that these could all harm themselves. Next week we will finish the rest of the commandments. They were all very well behaved today. With God's Grace....have a good week....Miss Janis
Sunday, April 2, 2017 Good Day Parents, My apologies that I didn't publish last week, however today we had a full class, last week I only had four students. So two of the students that were there last week taught the rest of the class today. I had Professor Isabel and Professor Aiden. They taught the entire Ten Commandments and reviewed with the children. They did an excellent job! Even trying to get the rest of the class, the boys of course, to calm down! Giovonni was good, to let his parents know. We have another new student and he like my other boys are excited leaders. They are good children, and let them know that I did get AA batteries so they don't have to bring me any. Thank you boys for wanting to help! It's a story maybe they can tell it to you, The point of the story was what commandments were broken and Jesus' forgiveness. Thank you God for your grace and my students......Miss Janis
Sunday April 9, 2017 Good Day Parents, Today we skipped up to Chapter 21, that goes along with Easter week from Palm Sunday through the Ascension. We talked about the Passion of Christ reading, and why palm is given out today. We also talked about how the temple was destroyed in three days, how Christ death detroyed sin and how that destroyed the old beliefs and brought forth a new life with His resurrection. We don't have class on Easter and have just one formal class left. Papers were sent home with your child about the last day of Religious Ed and vacation bible study. Have a very joyous Easter...With God's grace...Miss Janis
Sunday April 23, 2017 Good Morning Parents, Today we talked about Divine Mercy Sunday, then we finished watching the movie The Ten Commandments and discussed it. Then we talked about Our Lady of Fatima and told the story. We also talked about the scriptures and how the Lord entered a home to heal an employee, and how the owner didn't feel worthy that the Lord would enter under his roof, and how we say this prior to Communion. We also talked about the tax collector who was so short that he viewed the Lord from a tree, and the Lord invited himself to his home for a meal. Both of these stories dealt with humility and sin. Well today was our last formal class and we collected the text books, they can have the activity books. Next week we will have a movie and brunch in Brenner Hall, please have your children report there and you are welcome. It was a very good year and your children seem to know, understand, and remember what was taught to them. I will greatly miss them and this class, in my opinion, will go on to do great and good things. Thank you for your trust of your children. Have a great summer! With God's grace...Miss Janis
