The SPAA attempts to field 5 teams; Rink Boys and Girls, Junior Boys and Girls, and Senior Boys in addition to a cheerleading squad. Our teams normally play in the York-Adams B League. Practices are normally twice a week starting sometime in late October. Games are usually on Saturday and Sunday beginning the first weekend of December ending in early February with a tournament weekend sometime in February after the regular season.
We are a Parish organization that collaborates with the Athletic Associations, Catholic Elementary Schools and Parishes in the York Deanery to ensure students interested in playing have the opportunity on one of the teams or cheer squads. All SPAA uniforms are owned by the the association, there is a fee if they are not returned.
All Athletic Association families (everyone with children in the basketball or cheer program) are expected to volunteer to help our program be successful. This can be done through coaching (clearances required), running the clock/scoreboard, keeping the scorebook, admissions table and concessions (kitchen). Every family is expected to cover anywhere from 2-5 shifts during the season. The SPAA has been able to keep one of the lowest registration fees in the area without holding additional fundraisers due to our income from admissions and the success of the concessions. Additional help will be needed if we host a tournament (pre-season or end of season). Volunteering in any of these capacities or on the board can be counted toward the school service hour requirement.
Senior Boys: We realize YC and other high schools only post results of their tryouts in mid to late November. Please register if interested in possibly playing with us. If your athlete makes the other team, we will drop him from our registration. No registration fee is due until we determine if we are able to field a team and you are still interested (fee will be determined based on the registration date and due by November 30, 2019).
